In Disney’s Moana, her grandmother describes Moana as someone who “stands out of the crowd.” There’s no doubt about that as Moana, destined to become chief of her village, throws caution to the wind. She ignores her father’s warnings and ventures outside the safety of the village reef. She does it all to find a way to save her village and discover her true calling. For her dauntless courage, willingness to protect more than her own, and desire to see everything the world has to offer, Moana quickly became a role model for people of all ages and a character worth embodying.
Adults and children alike can find the allure of Moana’s story. When Moana takes to the water and discovers all the beauty of things she’s never seen, it’s hard not to get swept up in the idea of going on our own trip across the ocean. Of course, it takes a little more than a strong conviction and a free canoe to get yourself going. So, while you’re still working out the details, we’ve got a great way for you to at least take on Moana’s likeness.
You really must start with her wardrobe. Moana wears a traditional top, layered skirt, and belt inspired by Polynesian culture. Her bright colored top and layered skirt keep her ready for swimming, running, or navigating and you’ll find both pieces in a costume for adults or children. Of course, while you’ll be outfitted for adventure, there are a few more things you’ll want to really take on Moana and her race to save Motunui village.
The first accessory to consider: Moana’s long, wavy hair. If you’re rocking a shorter or lighter look, you’ll find we have a way to bring your hair-style along for this costume change. While we think any length of hair would have a wonderful time dancing in the wind as you sail the ocean, there’s something very alluring about having longer hair for the journey. The biggest advantage might be being able to throw that wild and beautiful mane up into a quick bun. You could braid it to the side or tie it into a long ponytail or… the possibilities seem endless. No matter how you choose to style your hair for your adventure you have the option of looking like Moana in one of our adult and child wigs.
To bring your Moana look to the next level there are a couple of other items that will really do the trick. Moana is given the heart of Te Fiti by the ocean itself, and as magical as that sounds, chances are a wave isn’t going to rise and hand any of us another beautiful gem. However, you can get your own Heart of Te Fiti in a necklace to wear with your Moana costume. As a bonus, if you should run into any giant lava monsters, you’ll have just the thing to calm them. Even if you’re just heading to a costume party or out for a night of trick-or-treating, you’ll want to make sure you can keep the party moving. It’s very hard to steer an unmotorized-watercraft without an oar. So, add one of ours to your outfit and you’ll be ready to go.
In our collection of Moana costumes and accessories, you’ll find everything you need to really become the wayfinding princess!
