A Bavarian at Heart
Your family comes from a long line of Italian ancestry. And that’s great. You’re known for food with the freshest, tastiest ingredients, especially pasta and pizza; wonderful and complex operas; and of course large family gatherings. It’s all great fun to be Italian. But lately, your little girl has been feeling a different vibe. In fact, she’s really gotten into smoked meats and brats, potatoes and sauerkraut. Sometimes you find her dancing to polka with her friends and talking about large open restaurant halls where everyone sits at huge and long tables together. Sounds to us like you should get her this Child German Girl Costume so she can explore the full experience of German food culture!
It won’t change her Italian roots! Of course not. But it will let her enjoy some time to feel at home in Bavarian-style beer halls (while not drinking beer, obviously), where the polka is loud and the crowd is one enormous family, too!
Who knows, she may even convince the whole family to go to Oktoberfest one year. And in this outfit—which is a pullover dress styled as a skirt and vest over a peasant blouse—she’ll fit right in. The skirt, apron, and vest are all trimmed with brocade ribbon, while the bodice inset has crisscrossed pink ribbon to imitate the classic Bavarian dirndl. Maybe the whole family can get a matching set, even for Nonni and Papa Gigi, because at Oktoberfest, everyone is German for a day!
Your huge Italian family might find that German traditions have a lot of the same as Italian ones. Sure the food and music are quite different, but the idea of having a big family together sharing food and loving each other is the same. So have fun and thank your daughter for the wonderful new experience!
