Family Edition: Catan Board Game
What’s this Catan All About?
You’ve heard about it. That game, Catan, that everyone has been talking about lately. What’s the big deal? You’re just building houses and roads, right? That’s basically what you do in Monopoly, so it’s practically the same game, right? Well, as avid players of the game ourselves, we’re here to tell you that it’s totally the next level of board gaming! It’ll knock your socks off once you play it, but we get it. You’re just not ready to dive straight into it. The good news is that this Catan: Family Edition Board Game is a budget version of the game that packs the full Catan experience into a game that’s friendly for newcomers.
So, let’s get down to brass tax. Here are the differences between this Family Edition and the Standard Catan game. First of all, the pieces in the Family Edition are made of solid plastic, instead of wood. This helps in making the game a budget edition. Second, the game board is preset into 6 interlocking tiles with preset dice locations. This means that the game is quicker and easier to set up and that games will be a little more balanced with fewer “feel bad” games for unlucky players. It does mean, however, that there are much fewer board configurations and you will be unable to use the Family Edition with any Catan Expansion packs.
