Nightcrawler, aka Kurt Wagner, is a mutant. Yes, he identifies as a mutant, but the term does not define him. He, more than most X-Men, embodies this principle. Unlike most mutants, Kurt was born a blue furry little cutie. Because of the superstitious nature of the village he grew up in, he was treated as a demon. We find out later in the comics that his dad is an actual demon, but that proves even more that people's destinies are written in stone.
