Maki is the daughter of one of the heads of the Zenin Clan. Due to her Heavenly Restriction, she was outcasted by the clan. She is one of three cases of this we have seen in the anime and manga. Jujutsu Kaisen is all about balance as well as give and take. Maki's restriction is just this—she was born without curse energy but was blessed with superhuman skills. Neat, right?
