The Most Fashionable Star Wars Characters, Ranked

Written by

What would the fashion of the future look like? Many of our favorite sci-fi movies and TV series attempt to answer this question. Star Wars is one of our favorite franchises regarding fashion, with impressive royal wear to smugglers, bounty hunters, and Jedi. We'd love to wear any of Padme Amidala's lovely dresses, and Lando Calrissian makes us wish capes were back in fashion. Some characters have only one or two looks, while others have robust wardrobes. Follow along as we rank the best fashions in Star Wars! Who do you think wore it best?

1. Padme Amidala

It's not even a contest when we look at Padme Amidala's vast wardrobe. From her red senate dress to the white arena outfit, Padme has enough outfits that we could rank them 1-10! We love that she feels fully put-together, often with excellent makeup to compliment her apparel. It's a shame that her character development was less impressive than her costumes.

2. Princess Leia

Princess Leia also had several outfit changes throughout the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, but we have to give it to her first appearance in the white dress with the space buns. Can you say iconic? We also love Leia's Hoth and Endor outfits for their style and simplicity. She finds the perfect balance between form and function flawlessly.

3. Qi'ra

It's a shame that Qi'ra only appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story because the movie was a box office bomb, but her outfits were on fire! She grew up on the streets with Han as a child but worked her way up the ladder as a crime lord. In part of the movie, she wears a low-cut black dress with straps crossing the chest, but this red-caped outfit is our favorite! The silver accents on her belt, cape, and earrings pull the outfit together.

4. Lando Calrissian

Lando may be a smooth-talking smuggler, but he certainly spends some of those ill-gotten credits on his wardrobe! He is the king of capes, and me makes us want some of our own. The capes also match his well-tailored pants and tops for a combination that feels very futuristic. Could this ever come back in style?

5. Greef Karga

Greef Karga shows us that growing old doesn't mean growing out of fashion. This disgraced magistrate still dresses with a flair befitting politicians and nobility, perhaps indicating that he hasn't entirely given up on his aspirations to do good in the world. We especially love his outer red tunic with gold accents and the thick decorative chain holding his cloak in place. We love everything about this outfit!

6. Mon Mothma

High-ranking politicians like Mon Mothma certainly have the money to spend on once clothing for themselves. It makes sense for them to do so, too, as the people they represent hold them in high regard. We especially love Mon Mothma's simplistic yet elegant robes, like this blue and white outfit in the Ahsoka series. The decorative chain on her caplet adds a beautiful touch. In her other appearances, Mon Mothma maintains her style with other elegant and simplistic outfits.

7. Darth Vader

Many Sith outfits have a black-on-black aesthetic that can make it difficult to stand out, but Darth Vader's costume has enough elements to bring visual interest to a primarily black wardrobe. The vertical stitching on his jumpsuit stands out in contrast to the large, flowing cape. His armored shoulders and codpiece aren't protecting much as far as lightsaber battles are concerned, but they help to complete his menacing silhouette. Of course, Darth Vader's iconic helmet is there for more than show, but the design is also gratuitous. He's our best-dressed Sith for a reason!

8. Boba Fett

The Mandalorians have the coolest-looking armor in the Star Wars franchise, and it's a shame that their presence in the movies never amounted to much. The first Mandalorian we ever envied was Boba Fett and his cool Mandalorian armor. It's meant to be practical for his job as a bounty hunter, but it's also very aesthetically pleasing. Was Boba Fett one of your favorite action figures?

9. Vice-Admiral Holdo

Fashion doesn't always have to be complex to be beautiful. We also don't have to see eye-to-eye with Vice-Admiral Holdo to notice that she has a keen fashion sense. While many military officers for the Rebels wore military-style clothing, her background as a politician likely influenced her apparel. We generally see her in this purple-gray dress in the movies; the back sells it for us. The gathered drapes are so beautiful, adding complexity and interest to an otherwise simple dress.

10. Zorii Bliss

Scoundrels and smugglers working the beat don't always get the chance to let their fashion sense shine when contending with royals, Jedi, and Sith, but Zorii Bliss is a prime example that you can get the job done while looking fabulous. Her crimson bodysuit features beautiful topstitching that's more decorative than necessary for a basic catsuit. Then you have her belts, collar, and armbands, all made with copper colors with intricate geometric details. The matching helmet seals the deal for us!

11. Captain Phasma

In many ways, Captain Phasma mirrored Boba Fett for us. She wears a unique set of armor that sets her apart from other movie characters but ultimately suffers from a lack of screen time and character development. Doesn't it sting when characters are hyped up to be the best of the best but ultimately don't get the chance to show their skills as the heroes easily overcome them? Still, we can't deny that her shiny and chrome armor set excited us to see her whenever she got the chance to be on screen. The cape ultimately serves no purpose, but it's cool, and we like it.

12. Din Djarin

Din Djarin's beskar armor is a pleasure to behold if you're talking about shiny silver armor. It's only more satisfying knowing the pains he went through to obtain the materials to make it. While it's not high fashion by any means, it's still impressive craftsmanship for functional work apparel. We can see the appeal!

13. Cassian Andor

Rebel pilot and smuggler characters typically wear basic outfits consisting of pants paired with a shirt and some sort of outer covering such as a jacket or vest. (Po, Finn, and Han fall into this category.) However, we have to give Cassian Andor the top outfit out of all of them. Through varied textures and layers, he achieves a rugged look that brings a touch of fashion to the everyday. Could we please get some of this futuristic urban wear for ourselves?

14. Ahsoka

Ahsoka

This ex-Jedi is well-known for her tenacity and battle strength, but we must also admire her outfits. Ahsoka may think she's too occupied with evading enemy forces while running with the rebels to pursue fashion, but she looks good! We love how her outfits incorporate the Jedi style while considering her ease of movement. Her outfits may change less than some other characters, but her new white outfit in the Ahsoka series is one of our favorites!

15. The Armorer

The Armorer

The Mandalorian TV series introduced us to several other Mandalorian characters, including the Armorer. The first time she appeared on the screen, we were struck by her outfit's uniqueness. Her helmet is very unique for a Mandalorian, although, for someone who crafts their armor, she can practically do whatever she wants. At the same time, her outfit features much more leather and fabric than other Mandalorians, but we can only imagine how hot it would be to wear metal around forging equipment all day. The fur on her shoulders is a nice touch that adds to her unique design overall.

16. Sabine Wren

Sabine was always known for her artistry, which is reflected in her wardrobe and other means of self-expression. Although raised as a Mandalorian, she fought against their allegiance with the Emire and some Mandalorian norms. Sabine disliked drab equipment and custom-painted her own armor and would also repaint Imperial gear and anything else that struck her inspiration. (Although we're sad that her live-action counterpart feels less colorful than animated Sabine.) Out of all the Mandalorians, Sabine is likely the most fashion-minded.

17. Rey

Rey

[Source: Lucasfilm Ltd./Bad Robot/IMDb]

As a former scavenger from the planet Jakku, Rey didn't change much about her outfit when she became a Jedi. Her outfits always stuck to a neutral palette, often with arm wraps and loose fabric draped over her clothes. (And lots of belts and straps!) Like Ahsoka, Rey's outfits usually fell on the practical side of fashion, but they're still cool with her unique style.

18. Kylo Ren

As we mentioned, all-black ensembles have their challenges standing out amongst more colorful attire. However, Kylo Ren sets himself apart through fabric textures and layering. His best outfit leaves no skin uncovered, with the silver in his signature mask breaking up the monotony of an otherwise very black outfit. We're also on the hood-up team because it makes his Sith appearance even more intimidating.

19. Darth Maul

Darth Maul

Darth Maul's outfit is pretty standard for Sith characters, although his unique tattoos and lightsaber make it feel complete. His black cloak worn over a black Sith tunic isn't extravagant, although we love that he has some extra fabric in the bottom for dramatic twirls while battling. Darth Maul is definitely one of our favorite Sith characters in Star Wars!

20. Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker wears several outfits throughout the Star Wars franchise, although he's not trying to win any fashion awards. They are fighting a war, after all, so many of his outfits are very military-inspired and tactical after he leaves Tatooine and his moisture-farming outfit behind. He wears the same orange flight suit as the other X-wing fighters, and the outfits he wears to Hoth, Endor, and Dagobah are also very practical. When he finally passes his Jedi training, the apparel that he picks for himself is all black, something rare among Jedi. There isn't a great explanation offered, but it could be symbolic of his struggle with the dark side and his father or in memoriam of the death of the Jedi.

While fashion is very subjective we have some stand-out characters. Who are your favorite characters in the Star Wars franchise? Are any of them still waiting for their live-action debut? We'd love to hear all about your favorite Star Wars characters! Don't forget to check out our selection of Star Wars gifts to add to your collection.
