Wow! This is, as anyone who’s played a Dark Forces or Battlefront Star Wars game knows, an E-11 blaster rifle! It’s pretty much the basic standard in automatic repeating rifles. Nothing too fancy. We’re not sure why the lasers went from red to blue after the Clone Wars. We guess because the Stormtroopers don’t have to pretend they’re not bad anymore? Were blue lasers better? They kind of seemed better. Maybe the Empire is cutting corners and sacrificing its soldiers’ safety in the process. Would that really surprise anyone?
Speaking of which, there’s some discrepancy when it comes to the subject of Stormtrooper marksmanship. As we all know Obi-Wan Kenobi remarks about the destruction of the sandcrawler, “Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise.” But we go on to watch 3 movies of Stormtroopers attempting and almost never succeeding to hit our heroes, often at relatively close range and usually with far greater numbers. When Leia finally does get shot, it’s not fatal. Yet, in The Phantom Menace, the only time we see a Tusken Raider shoot at anything, he manages an impressive, podracer-wrecking sniper shot from the top of a cliff. So who do we believe, an old man who’s been out in the desert for 19 years (in which time he seemingly aged about twice that much) or our own eyes? Things don’t seem to have improved much in the transition from Empire to First Order either. Maybe General Hux is right––they should go back to clones! See if you can do any better than the average member of the 501st with this Star Wars Ep. 7 Stormtrooper Blaster Accessory.
