Since 1998, March 2nd has been a time for readers across America to pass on the joy and importance of reading to school-aged children. In classrooms from coast to coast, teachers open a book and share it with their students. At home, parents sit down with their children and read the bedtime story that they loved growing up. No matter where it happens, if a book is being shared, Read Across America Day is being celebrated and the magic of reading is touching more lives.

You may see multiple Cats in the Hat running around on Read Across America Day. You’ll probably hear at least one Dr. Seuss quote, or a full whimsical story read aloud because Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss share a birthday! Dr. Seuss's stories have been inspiring imaginations to run free and children to fall in love with reading since 1937, so encouraging a life full of reading on the famous author’s birthday make perfect sense!

When you’re planning your own Read Across America celebration or looking for a gift for the person that got your young reader started, our collection of Read Across America merchandise and gifts is ready to help! From apparel and costumes to collectibles and sets of classic children’s books, you’ll find something as worthy of sharing as the joy of reading.

Keeping with the Dr. Seuss theme? You’ll find Dr. Seuss anthologies featuring the classics you grew up on and newer stories full of fun! Bring the Cat in the Hat to life with a costume while you read Go, Dog! Go! or the talking cat’s namesake to your child before bed. Or bring a little more mischief to the day with a Thing 1 costume or a Grinch plush toy. No matter how you celebrate the children’s author’s birthday, it’s sure to be as delightful as every Dr. Seuss story!

Looking for a new way to get someone reading? Try a toy based on a popular book series or a game that encourages a young reader to become a young writer. Give your reader a reading companion and watch them practice reading out loud for an audience. You’ll find book and plush sets that let children relive the story with the main character and coloring books that let them reimagine the story.

From Curious George to Where’s Waldo and Llama Llama to the Magic School Bus, you’ll find classics and the newest favorites in our collection of Read Across America gifts. Gift your child’s teacher with a Dr. Seuss mug or decorate your home with a Harry Potter collectible. Send your child to school on March 2nd with a new collection of Eric Carle books or a new Pete the Cat backpack. When the day is through, settle down with another reading of The Day the Crayons Quit or Dragons Love Tacos and know you’ve helped foster another generation of avid readers!
