Madden NFL: Evolution of a Video Game Franchise [Infographic]

Madden Infographic Blog Header

August 23rd marks the release of Madden NFL '17, the 29th game in the Madden football franchise. The video game franchise that's been around longer than most NFL players has undergone quite a bit of changes over the years. The original John Madden Football that was released in 1988 didn't even include actual NFL teams and featured graphics that made it difficult to tell which player was holding the ball. Over time, though, the graphics continued to improve and several features were added, such as team and player rankings, new controls, and modes like franchise and owner mode, among many other things. Madden NFL '17 promises to have a bunch of new features relating to offense, defense, and special teams.

A Wide World of Funko Pop Vinyls

A Wide World of Funko Pop Vinyls

Nerds used to be outcasts. They used to be persecuted for spending their hard-earned money on stacks of comic books. They used to be ridiculed for unwinding by playing a few hours of their favorite table-top RPG. They used to endure all sorts of stereotypes society had about them for their love of video games. But that time is no more! The naysayers figured out that comic books are actually pretty fun, using their imagination is cool, and video games might be the greatest invention that mankind ever made. Yes, we live in a society filled with nerdy people who have nerdy passions, and the people at Funko think that's pretty cool. They've made whole lines of figures dedicated to the most nerdy of hobbies, from video games to anime, and even wrestling. So, if you're looking for a little swag to express your passions, a Pop! Video Game Heart Containers: 19 Printable Valentines for Valentine’s Day

Video Game Heart Containers

When you think about it, video games and Valentine's Day are pretty much about the same things. In video games, you gather and spend hearts, a representation for your character’s health or vitality, in order to defeat the final boss. On Valentine's Day, you gather and distribute hearts in the form of pun-filled cards and candy, in the hopes that you’ll win the affections of that special someone. Okay, it’s not a perfect metaphor and it probably breaks down somewhere, but what’s important is that we’ve created some punny custom valentines for all of the video game fans in Fun.com-land. So have a laugh while eating some heart-shaped candy, and keep in mind that you can download and print these “heart containers” to make your own video game valentines cards! (Simply click the image you want and download the higher-resolution file.)

Game of Thrones and Mortal Kombat mashup

Caution: Some spoilers from Game of Thrones and Mortal Kombat call this post home. So read at your own caution!

Game of Thrones and Mortal Kombat X - are they so different? Killer warriors vying for the top, plenty of dismembered heads, and the occasional man-eating dragon (we’re looking at you, Liu Kang and Daenerys) – c’mon, this mashup writes itself!

Did we mention we rendered this whole thing with our Game of Thrones Legacy Action Figures?!...

Kirby’s Dream Hats: 12 Characters We Wish Kirby Would Inhale

Kirby's Dream Hats Trading Cards

The perfectly pink and oh-so-adorable title star of the iconic Nintendo video game series Kirby is pretty well-known for his acts of imitation. Selecting the spherical hero in Super Smash Bros. gives you access to a whole mess of different moves. Why? Because every time Kirby inhales another character he is able to copy their standard special move. Also (and this is the part that we just love), his appearance changes to mimic the video game character that he absorbed. Wanna see Kirby with a Mario hat? Done. Kirby with a Jigglypuff hair tuft? He’s there. (Looks real cute.) Samus, Sonic, and Sheik? Check, check, and check! You name it, Kirby can be it.

BUT! As extensive as Kirby’s wardrobe is in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, he still can’t copy ‘em if they’re not in the game, right? We love a good video game brainstorm session at FUN.com, so we dreamt up a dozen more ideas of characters we’d like to see Kirby inhale. We put them in cute trading card style, along with our imagined special attack that Kirby might be able to use.

Sure, Pikachu, Charmander, and the gang are all nice and cute when they're small, but have you ever stopped to imagine what the world would look like if Pokémon were Godzilla-sized? Well, we imagined it for you. The word Pokémon is short for "pocket monster," and kaiju is Japanese for "strange creature" and is used to describe giant monsters, famous in Japanese cinema....
